STYLE LESSONS: It's all about ruffles!!!

STYLE LESSONS: It's all about the denim shirt!!
The denim shirt is definitely a statement piece you must have on your closet, the versatility of this garment lets you play with different kind of styles in men and women. I really like the idea of mixing formal pieces with denim, for example suit and denim shirt for men and women, and pencil skirt + denim shirt. The 100% denim look is also an excellent choice for a sunny day, you can add a blazer or a leather jacket to make the look even more interesting and less obvious. It's important not to put many cowboy pieces together on one look, otherwise people will think you're wearing a costume.

Retro fashion sets the trend.
After 80's mood proposed by the most importants labels for the last season, 50's is on fashion for this season "fall-winter 2010". Sixty years later designers and labels such as: Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Nina Ricci, Dries Van Notten, Rochas, and some others; proposed the bee silhouette inspired by the 50's "new look" from Christian Dior for all their collections. Probably volume skirts at the waist high, blazer jackets, sexy necklines, and all kind of accesories inspired by this age will be sold in "low cost" shops such as: ZARA, MANGO, H&M, TOPSHOP, FOREVER21, and others; which follow the trends of the big fashion labels each season.
For 2011, 70's and the "hippie-chic mood" will be on fashion definitly. Runway shows seen in New York, Milan, London, and some of Paris; gave us clear trend report of loose silhouettes, light and happy colors, psychedelic prints, oversize cuts, and wide pants boot. Designers such as: Marc Jacobs, Custo Barcelon ,D&G, and Dries Van Notten; proposed this type of shapes.
Undoubtedly the reinvention of 50's, 70's, and 80's; show us how retro fashion is comming back for staying a long. Take out your retro pieces from your closet and edit your outfits using vintage pieces. Mix original vintage pieces with basic ones, and be sure you will always have a successful look.
Tips for this fall-winter season 2010, 50's mood.
1. Use this look always with high heels. This types of skirts make you look shorter
2. Use rigid fabrics. Rigid fabrics are perfect to give volume to the skirt
3. Use masculin shirts. They always look pretty good for working
4. Sweaters of lightweight fabrics are a very good option for this look

After happy sunny days in Bogota, strong rains started on april and probably will end on june; that's why people who live in Bogota and the ones who plan to go there, "must have" the following items which are essentials to survive to this awful weather:
1. Trenchcoat: This is the perfect layer against the rain. The smart invent of Burberry is the most important piece for this weather definitly. It's made with fabrics waterproof, you can have it in differents kind of colors; however the most common colors are the basics: Gray, black, cahmel, and kaquee.

Rain stains and dirties your shoe, however you can get a pair or rubber boots with a special design, so they will look nice with any outfit you want. You can find boots of different colors and size; they look much better with trousers or jeans for men and women. If you are going to wear skirt make sure to wear leggings, so you avoid the rain can touch part of your legs (is it's short skirt).
3. Umbrella: Don't go out with one of these!. Umbrellas are the best friend for your hair and face skin when it's rainning. Not everybody speak PRADA!

Have you ever taken out a piece from your outfit just because someone told you that it did not match well?
Well... Maybe he\she was not right!. Your friend does not have the same fashion sensibility you have, and probably the piece you removed from the look was the special touch of personality it needed to be perfect.
Don't trust on strangers! that's what moms say. Don't trust on basic people! that's what I say to you. Not everybody underestand the language that few people know, I mean "the fashion language".

Don't trust on strangers! that's what moms say. Don't trust on basic people! that's what I say to you. Not everybody underestand the language that few people know, I mean "the fashion language".
How can I recognize if a person underestands fashion?
- Perfect mix: It's important to match the colors correctly, it does not matter if there are several colors in an outfit; the most important thing is that all the colors look well to the eyes. Use happy colors for the summer and basic colors for the winter; white is used for winter and summer. Prints are also used for winter and summer, do not worry to mix prints at the same time; animal prints look better with geometrics prints, and floral ones with moles and squares prints. Don't forget to use lightweight fabrics for summer and heavy fabrics for winter.
- Sexy, not vulgar: Sexiness is not synonymous of vulgar. I do not know why some people think it's sexy showing as more skin they can in their outfits? First, you have to know your body; and then realized how to dress correctly according with your figure. If you have a slim silhouette, you can use short skinny dresses and show your legs, or you can wear dresses with plunging necklines on the breasts. Make sure not to show legs and breasts at the same time; it rests elegance to the woman. If your figure is not slim at all, cover your legs as much as posible, you can use necklines on the breasts, and sometimes let the back exposed; try not to use skinny clothes, light colors, lines and big prints; the most convenient silhouette for you is "A" (narrow on the top, and width at the end).
- Risky, not flashy: You can take risks at the moment of dress, but taking those risks is not put on a costume. People think that as more weird clothes they wear, more fashion they will look like!; and that's not true. You can add elements to your outfit if they work as a special complement for the look. Do not put more than two accesories on your look. If you are going to wear jewlery, try not to mix differents metals. Shoes not necessarily have to match with the bag and the belts either.
